La lectura de estos mensajes dura en el audio hasta el minuto 12:27, y luego hay comentarios.
Son dos mensajes de Lucas y de Jesús.
El mensaje de Lucas es el más largo y nos habla del espiritualismo (algunos lo llamaríamos hoy «espiritismo»), como movimiento: sus carencias, etc.
En el comentario tras la lectura, al mirar algunas cosas del artículo de la wikipedia sobre el tema (Spiritualism), vemos por qué más bien nos toca emplear la palabra ‘espiritualismo‘ y no ‘espiritismo’.

Por qué el espiritualismo, tal como se enseña actualmente, no satisface el alma en sus anhelos de felicidad, paz y contento (Lucas, el Apóstol) (5 diciembre 1915)

Estoy aquí, Lucas.
Quiero escribir unas líneas sobre el tema del que tú y tu amigo, el dr. Stone, estuvisteis hablando: si el espiritualismo, tal como se entiende y enseña actualmente, proporciona aquello que satisface el alma humana en sus anhelos de felicidad, paz y contento.
A lo largo de mi vida espiritual he escuchado a muchos predicadores y maestros de espiritualismo, tanto en los últimos años como a lo largo de las épocas, desde mi primera entrada en la vida como espíritu ─pues debes saber que el espiritualismo no es algo nuevo cuyo origen o creencia se haya dado en los años recientes tras sus manifestaciones en América─. A lo largo de la historia, los espíritus se han manifestado a la humanidad de una u otra forma, y los hombres han creído en el espiritualismo y lo han comentado.
Por supuesto, en épocas pasadas, cuando las iglesias ostentaban el gran poder que les permitía dictar las creencias de los hombres, el espiritualismo no se enseñaba ni se discutía tan abiertamente como en los últimos años; sin embargo, siempre ha sido conocido por la humanidad durante el período al que me he referido. Sus enseñanzas nunca han ido más allá de los meros fenómenos que demostraban a sus creyentes la continuidad de la vida y la comunicación con los espíritus. Los aspectos más elevados del desarrollo del alma y del Reino de Dios ─tal como se os ha instruido─ nunca se concibieron, o al menos nunca se enseñaron ni se creyó en ellos. Solo se discutían y aceptaban los dos hechos que he mencionado; e incluso hoy, los científicos que lo investigan se limitan a los fenómenos, y se contentan con demostrar que el hombre nunca muere.
En ningún momento los maestros del espiritualismo han buscado ni enseñado la existencia del Amor Divino ni del Reino de Dios, y de hecho, tales cosas no podrían haberse enseñado, pues nunca han sido conocidas. Para el espiritualista, Dios nunca ha sido más que una fuerza abstracta e indefinible, cuya existencia carece de la certeza suficiente como para ser algo más que un mero principio, tal como algunos Lo consideran; y las leyes que rigen la naturaleza son lo único a lo que los hombres deben recurrir para formarse sus ideas acerca del bien y del mal, y para el gobierno de su conducta en la vida.
Los espiritualistas hablan del amor entre los hombres, de la fraternidad, del cultivo de la mente y de las cualidades morales, pero no admiten ayuda externa, o si sí lo hacen, es la ayuda de algún amigo fallecido que puede no ser para nada competente a la hora de ayudar; y si lo es, dicha ayuda es solo la que una persona le puede brindar a otra; e incluso cuando se habla de la ayuda de los llamados espíritus superiores, no hay ninguna cualidad diferente implicada en tal ayuda.
Sé que los espíritus ayudan a los mortales, y que también les perjudican, pero toda esa ayuda, según las ideas de los espiritualistas, se basa en lo que ellos suponen que poseen estos espíritus en cuanto a unas cualidades intelectuales o morales superiores.
El alma humana, que es esa parte del ser humano hecha a imagen de Dios, anhela, aunque sea inconscientemente, aquello que transforme esa imagen en Sustancia, con la consiguiente felicidad y alegría. Sin embargo, no verás que ningún espiritualista enseñe ni intente enseñar cómo o de qué manera se puede adquirir dicha Sustancia, o el hecho de que haya una tal Sustancia. No saben que el Amor Divino, que se manifiesta a través de la operación del Espíritu Santo, es lo único que permite la transformación de la imagen en Sustancia, y por lo tanto, no pueden enseñar las verdades. En consecuencia, las enseñanzas del espiritualismo jamás satisfacen los anhelos del alma humana.
¿Acaso crees que si la gran verdad del espiritualismo hubiera abarcado la gran verdad del desarrollo del alma, el espiritualismo sería ahora la débil y poco atractiva doctrina que es, y acaso crees que la gente no la habría buscado y adoptado en masa?
El espiritualismo, con todas las verdades que encierra, es la verdadera religión del universo, y a la hora de llevar a los hombres a un estado de reconciliación con el Padre, sería más eficaz que todas las demás religiones juntas. Sin embargo, carece de poder y de influencia como religión, pues no posee las enseñanzas que muestran a los hombres el camino hacia el amor de Dios y la satisfacción de los anhelos del alma.
Pero algún día, en un futuro próximo, este defecto se remediará y entonces verás a hombres y mujeres acudir en masa a su seno, para poder disfrutar no solo de la felicidad que les brinda la comunicación con sus amigos difuntos, sino también de la felicidad que les proporciona el desarrollo del alma mediante el Amor Divino.
Desconozco por qué la gran revelación de esta verdad se ha demorado tanto para los espiritualistas, salvo que quizá la humanidad no estuviera preparada para recibirla antes; pero ahora ha llegado el momento, y desaparecerán tanto las falsas creencias de las iglesias ortodoxas como la falta de fe de los espiritualistas, y así, los hombres serán libres y poseedores de las verdades combinadas del espiritualismo y de la existencia del Amor Divino, que les trae no solo felicidad y paz, sino la inmortalidad.
No debo escribir más esta noche, pues estás cansado. Así que te doy las buenas noches.

Estoy aquí, Jesús.
Eres mi verdadero hermano y pronto sentirás el amor de nuestro Padre en tu corazón. No te desanimes ni te abatas, pues el Espíritu Santo pronto llenará tu corazón con el amor del Padre, y entonces serás sumamente feliz y estarás lleno de luz y poder para ayudarte a ti mismo y al prójimo.
Ve a tu Padre en busca de Su ayuda. Ve en oración, con fe firme, y pronto sentirás Su amor en tu corazón. Sé que con el tiempo aceptarás mis enseñanzas, y verás cómo tu entendimiento se amplía enormemente, de modo que vas a reconocer que soy el Hijo del Padre, tal como te expliqué hace unas noches. Puedes recibir, y recibirás, el Amor del Padre, de manera que no tendrás por qué pasar por la expiación [expiation] en el mundo espiritual.
No fui concebido por el Espíritu Santo, como enseñan los predicadores y maestros que ahora guían a la humanidad en las doctrinas de las iglesias. Nací como tú, y mi padre terrenal fue José. Fui concebido por el Espíritu de Dios en el sentido de que nací libre de pecado y error, mientras que todos los demás seres humanos nacieron en pecado y error. Nunca fui un ser humano en lo que respecta a mi existencia espiritual, ya que siempre estuve libre de pecado y error; pero tenía todos los sentimientos y anhelos de un ser humano que no eran de pecado. Mi amor era tanto humano como espiritual, y estaba sujeto a todos los sentimientos de compasión y de amor que cualquier otro ser humano experimenta. No entiendas que yo anhelaba los placeres mundanos creados por las pasiones humanas. No era así; simplemente era capaz de sentir profundamente, y podía comprender el sufrimiento y la angustia de la humanidad.
Sí, lo haré, y aprenderás que los autores de la Biblia cometieron muchos errores. Te demostraré que muchas de las supuestas palabras mías no fueron dichas por mí ni expresan mis enseñanzas de la verdad. Sus [sus «de ella»: her*] enseñanzas de la Ciencia Cristiana no expresan el verdadero significado de la verdad y el amor tal como yo los enseñé. Ella se equivoca al afirmar que Dios es solo espíritu, un espíritu de la mente. Él es el espíritu de todo lo que pertenece a Su Ser. No es solo Mente, sino también Corazón, Alma y Amor.

Why Spiritualism as now taught does not satisfy the soul in its longings for happiness, peace and contentment (Luke, The Apostle) (5 Dec 1915)

I AM HERE. Luke.
I want to write a few lines on the subject about which you and your friend Dr. Stone were talking, and that is as to whether Spiritualism, as now understood and taught, supplies that which satisfies the souls of men in their longings for happiness and peace and contentment.
I have heard in the course of my spirit life a great many preachers and teachers of Spiritualism, both in recent years and all along the ages, from the time of my first entrance into spirit life; for you must know that Spiritualism is not a new thing having its origin or belief in the recent years that followed the manifestations in America. All along the ages spirits have manifested to mankind in one phase or another, and men have believed in Spiritualism and discussed it.
Of course, in former times when the churches had the great power which enabled them to dictate the beliefs of men, Spiritualism was not so openly taught or discussed as in these latter years; nevertheless it has always, during the time that I have named, been known to mankind. Never have its teachings gone beyond the mere phenomena which demonstrated to its believers the continuity of life and the communication of spirits. The higher things of the soul’s development and the Kingdom of God, as you have been instructed, were never thought of, or, at least, never taught or believed in. Only the two facts that I have spoken of were discussed and accepted; and even today, the scientific men who are investigating it deal only with the phenomena and are satisfied with proof that man never dies.
At no time has the existence of the Divine Love or the Kingdom of God been sought for or taught by the teachers of Spiritualism, and in fact such things could not have been taught, for they never have been known. God has never been anything more to the Spiritualist than some indefinable abstract force, whose existence is not of sufficient certainty to make Him anything more than a mere principle, as some call Him; and the laws governing all nature are the only things that men must look to for their ideas of right and wrong and the government of their conduct in life.
The Spiritualists speak of the love of man for one another and the brotherhood of man and the cultivation of the mind, and the moral qualities, but admit of no outside help, or if so, of the help of some departed friend who may not be at all competent to help; or if so, such help is only that which one can give to another; and even when the help of what is called the higher spirits is spoken of, it involves no different quality of help.
I know that spirits do help mortals, and also harm them, but all such help according to the ideas of the Spiritualists is based upon what they suppose these spirits possess in the way of superior intellectual acquirements or moral qualities.
The soul of man, which is that part of him that is made in the image of God, although it may be unconsciously, is longing for that which will make such image become Substance, with its resultant happiness and joy. Yet you will not find that any Spiritualist teaches or attempts to teach how or in what way such Substance may be acquired, or the fact that there is such a Substance. They do not know that the Divine Love, coming through the working of the Holy Spirit, is the only thing that can enable the image to be transformed into the Substance, and hence they cannot teach the truths, and as a consequence, the longings of a man’s soul are never satisfied by the teachings of Spiritualism.
Do you suppose that if the great truth of Spiritualism had embraced the greater truth of the soul development, that it, Spiritualism, would now be the weak, unattractive thing that it is, and that men would not have sought and embraced it in vast numbers?
Spiritualism, with all the truths that belong to it, is the true religion of the universe and one which would prove more effective in bringing men into a state of reconciliation with the Father than all other religions combined. But it is powerless and without drawing power as a religion because it has not the teachings which show men the way to God’s Love and to the satisfying of the soul’s longings.
But some day, and in the near future, this defect will be remedied and then you will see men and women flock to its bosom, so that they can enjoy not only the happiness which communication with their departed friends give them, but also, the happiness which the development of the soul by the Divine Love gives them.
Why the great revelation of this truth has been delayed to Spiritualists so long, I do not know, except it may be that mankind was not ready to receive it before; but now the time has come, and false beliefs of the orthodox churches, and the want of belief of the Spiritualists, will both disappear and men be made free and the possessors of the combined truths of Spiritualism and the existence of the Divine Love, which brings to them not only happiness and peace, but immortality.

Received September 28, 1914. This is the first formal message received by James E. Padgett.
I AM HERE. Jesus:
You are my true brother and will soon have the Love of our Father in your heart. Do not be discouraged or cast down for the Holy Spirit will soon fill your heart with the Love of the Father, and then you will be most happy and full of light and power to help yourself and fellowmen.
Go to your Father for His help. Go in prayer, firmly believing and you soon will feel His Love in your heart. My teachings, I know, you will receive in the course of time, and you will then see that your understanding will be greatly enlarged so that you will know that I am the Father’s son as I explained it to you a few nights ago. You can and will receive the Father’s Love so that you will not need to go through the expiation in the spirit world.
I was not conceived by the Holy Spirit, as it is taught by the preachers and teachers who are now leading mankind in the doctrines of the churches. I was born as you were born, and my earthly father was Joseph. I was conceived by God’s Spirit in the sense that I was born free from sin and error, while all other human beings were born in sin and error. I never was a human being so far as my spiritual existence is concerned, as I was always free from sin and error, but I had all the feelings and longings of a human being which were not of sin. My love was human as well as spiritual, and I was subject to all the feelings of sympathy and love that any other human being was. Do not understand that I was with desires and longings for the pleasures of the world which the human passions created. I was not, only I was capable of deep feeling, and could feel and know the suffering and distress of humanity.
Yes, I will, and you will learn that many errors were written by the writers of the Bible. I will show you that the many alleged sayings of mine were not said by me or did not express my teachings of the truth. Her teachings of Christian Science do not express the true meaning of truth and love as I taught them. She is in error as to the ideas that God is spirit only, a spirit of mind. He is a spirit of everything that belongs to His Being. He is not only Mind, but Heart, Soul and Love.
You are too weak to write more. You have my blessing and also that of the Holy Spirit.
